Lance Armstrong to lead Mayor's Ride in Sturgis

The Rapid City Journal is reporting that Lance Armstrong will lead the annual Mayor's Ride in Sturgis on Monday August 4th.  Rally officials defend their choice and say Lance deserves another chance.  "We understand the controversy that surrounds Lance, but we are willing to meet it head on. The city of Sturgis is about second chances," said Brenda Vasknetz, Sturgis motorcycle rally director.

The annual mayor's ride is a fundraiser for the Sturgis Volunteer Fire Department. In past year's the mayor's ride has included such participants as the governor, state legislators, industry professionals and a cross-section of motorcycle enthusiasts.  Lance is also an avid motorcyclist.

In the eyes of city officials, cycles are cycles and Vasknetz believes there is potential to draw visitors to the Sturgis motorcycle rally from bicycling enthusiasts.

Armstrong will also make guest appearances at the city's rally sponsor locations around town including the Boz Bros Lot at Exit 32 and at local businesses such as Sturgis Coffee, Easyriders Saloon, The Knuckle, Loud American Roadhouse, and Mid-States Campers.
