E-Motiv Unveils Two-Speed Seamless Transmission for Electric Motorcycles

British engineering specialist E-Motiv Shift Systems announced a new two-speed seamless transmission for electric motorcycles on October 26, 2026, ahead of a scheduled public demonstration at the EICMA show in Milan.
The transmission incorporates dual-ratio dog-engagement mechanics adapted from Zeroshift technology, which was originally developed for Aprilia Racing in MotoGP. The design eliminates torque interruption between gear shifts, allowing power delivery to remain continuous through each transition.
Standard production electric motorcycles typically rely on single-speed direct drives, a configuration that regularly forces a compromise between low-speed launch torque and highway cruising efficiency. According to reports from Autoweek and autoevolution, E-Motiv designed the two-ratio mechanism to let motorcycle manufacturers optimize motor efficiency across both low and high speeds.
By maintaining torque through the shift rather than cutting power, the gearbox aims to provide stronger acceleration, better efficiency, and increased highway range for production electric bikes. Full technical demonstrations are scheduled during the EICMA exhibition in Milan.
