NHTSA Launches Fall 2026 Safety Recall Campaign for Motorcycles and Cars

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched its Fall 2026 vehicle safety recall awareness campaign on October 26, 2026. Running through November 1, the nationwide push urges motorcycle riders and passenger car drivers to inspect their 17-character Vehicle Identification Numbers for any open safety recalls.

Mechanical defects present acute risks on two wheels. While automobile occupants have seatbelts and crumple zones, motorcyclists face severe hazards if components such as brakes, tires, or fuel lines fail at speed. Regulators are encouraging riders to run a quick search ahead of late-season riding to ensure their motorcycles do not have unaddressed defects.

Owners can check for open recall campaigns by using the free search tool on NHTSA.gov or by downloading the SaferCar app. Federal law mandates that authorized franchise dealerships complete all safety recall inspections and replacement repairs free of charge.
