The Monkey Bike Once Owned by Beatle John Lennon Up for Auction

A HONDA monkey bike used as a runaround by John Lennon on his Surrey estate is expected to fetch more than £30,000 ($41,000 us) when it goes to auction in March.

The road legal 49cc 1969 Honda Z50A K1 ‘Short Tail’ was owned by Lennon from 1969 to 1971, during which time he used it to get around his country estate.

The bike is roadworthy, unrestored and in original running condition with a mileage of just 1,460 miles (2360 km) on the odometer,  but it's hard to envision someone buying it and actually heading out on the highway with it.

The famous Beatle sold the bike when he moved to New York in 1971 and it was sold once more to the current owner who has been displaying it at various shows and events throughout England in the past four decades.
