Yamaha Recalls 2026 TW200 Dual-Sports and Issues Do-Not-Ride Warning Over Speedometer Failure

Yamaha Motor Corporation, USA is recalling 962 units of the 2026 TW200 dual-sport motorcycle and advising owners not to ride them until a defective speedometer assembly is replaced by a dealer.

According to safety recall documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, internal metal components inside the front-wheel speedometer gear unit fail to meet hardness specifications. When the front axle nut is torqued, the under-hardened parts can deform and bind.

This mechanical binding can cause the speedometer to display inaccurate vehicle speeds or fail altogether. Riding without a functioning speedometer violates federal motor vehicle safety standards and creates road safety hazards.

Because of the defect, Yamaha attached an explicit do-not-ride warning to the campaign, instructing owners to keep their motorcycles parked until an authorized Yamaha dealer completes the repair. Dealerships will install a replacement front speedometer gear unit assembly free of charge.

The recall is logged under NHTSA Campaign Number 26V197, and Yamaha identifies the action internally as recall campaign code 990187.
