Indian Motorcycle Expands Spirit Lake Plant and Trims Corporate Roles in Standalone Shift

Indian Motorcycle announced the next phase of its transition into an independent manufacturer on October 28, 2026, directing new investments into its Spirit Lake, Iowa production facility following its sale by Polaris to private equity firm Carolwood LP.
The company is adding up to 60 manufacturing jobs in Spirit Lake to expand domestic engine assembly and paint operations. The plant upgrades focus resources directly on core motorcycle assembly as the brand establishes its own operational footprint separate from Polaris.
Alongside the factory expansion, Indian eliminated approximately 70 corporate positions that previously overlapped with Polaris operations. To replace shared administrative functions, the company is hiring roughly 10 dedicated internal staff, resulting in an overall net-neutral change in total employment.
The realignment focuses resources on domestic production lines in Iowa, where Indian builds its heavyweight and midsize lineups. As Harley-Davidson's primary American competitor, Indian's manufacturing capacity and operational footing in Spirit Lake directly affect vehicle production, replacement parts availability, and dealer support across North America.
