Sturgis Council Appoints New Finance Officer, Sets Rally Sponsorship Panel

The Sturgis City Council has approved Mayor Rod Bradley's appointment of Dawn Christenson as the city's next finance officer, while also advancing commercial planning for future Sturgis Motorcycle Rally cycles.

Christenson will begin serving as finance officer designate on November 9, 2026. She succeeds Ann Bertolotto, who is retiring in December 2026 after 34 years of service to the City of Sturgis.

During the meeting, the council also passed Resolution 2026-47, which outlines the structure of an evaluation panel for the city's active Request for Qualifications and Interest (RFQI). The solicitation focuses on commercial sponsorship and trademark licensing rights owned by the city.

The agreement resulting from the RFQI will cover sponsorship opportunities and trademark use across the 2027, 2028, and 2029 rally cycles. Submissions for the solicitation are due by November 15, 2026.

Decisions made by municipal officials in Sturgis determine vendor rules, commercial licensing, and rally infrastructure planning throughout the Black Hills as preparations begin for upcoming event seasons.
