NHTSA Now Lets You Check 100 VINs at Once for Recalls

Checking recall notices on multiple motorcycles just got a lot faster in the United States.

On November 5, 2026, NHTSA leadership rolled out a bulk Vehicle Identification Number lookup tool during the opening session of the Recalls Next conference. The service runs directly on NHTSA.gov and checks open safety recalls for up to 100 VINs at the same time. The tool queries the federal safety defect database established under 49 CFR Part 573.

Before this update, checking recall statuses required running individual lookups one machine at a time, creating a slow process that discouraged comprehensive defect tracking. The bulk feature changes that for independent motorcycle shops, rental fleets, and riders managing multi-bike garages. You can now verify that an entire pre-owned inventory or personal collection is clear of open factory defect recalls in a single pass.

The lookup service is available free of charge to consumers, commercial dealers, and fleet managers on NHTSA.gov. How many bikes are sitting in your garage that need a quick check?
